Our Team

George J. Owens

Founder and Principal Consultant

George is the founder and Principal Consultant of SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group and has over 24+ years of experience in high performance environments. George is skilled in identifying, scoping, and developing new opportunities for management effectiveness, marketing and customer engagement. He is an expert in recognizing and defining problems; identifying appropriate information solutions and implementing effective programs to drive results leading to increased revenue and profitability.

Prior to co-founding SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group, George served as a Managing Director in the marketing department of a Fortune 1000 services company.  From 1995-2007, George was with J.D. Power one of the world’s foremost marketing intelligence firms where he designed and led programs in a variety of industries.

George is a graduate of California State University, Northridge and completed his MBA from The George S. Graziadio School at Pepperdine University.  George also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Management, California Lutheran University where he teaches courses in Integrated Marketing Communications, Marketing Strategy and Branding.

Oren Rappaport

Principal Consultant

Oren is a Principal Consultant with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group. Since 1999, Oren has specialized in voice of the customer data and the development of key stakeholder perspectives. He has a wide range of global experience analyzing and consulting with companies seeking to improve and better understand their position and the competitive landscape. Oren has unique expertise in the areas of customer satisfaction, product planning and development, strategic management and identification of strengths and weaknesses.

An expert in utilizing data analytics, he focuses on areas and issues that are likely to have the greatest impact from an improvement perspective, in order to maximize his clients’ “bang for the buck.” He also seeks to uncover those factors ultimately responsible for poor performance via root-cause analysis and understanding of his clients’ products, structure and issues.

Prior to joining the SOCAL Approach team, Oren has also served as President of Borapp Consulting, Inc. as an integral partner and project lead in approximately 200 consulting and analytic engagements with companies such as J.D. Power, NueBridge, Trial Services Group and others serving the automotive, energy, telecommunications, manufacturing and services industries. His projects resulted in significant improvement for his clients in industry-leading quality metrics.

Previously, Oren was with J.D. Power and Associates for over a decade assisting regional and global companies improve their performance in the areas of sales satisfaction, product quality, web site experience, and perceptual quality, leveraging customer feedback and industry metrics into actions and initiatives that strengthen sales volume, customer loyalty, cost efficiencies and the customer experience overall.

Oren is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and completed his MBA at the Marshall School of Business, at the University of Southern California.

Michael Cooperman

Senior Consultant

Mike is a Senior Consultant with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group.  For more than 20 years, Mike has served as an expert in strategic marketing, communications, and branding for companies ranging from tech startups to Fortune 100 firms.

For more than 20 years, Mike has served as an expert in strategic marketing, communications, and branding for companies ranging from tech startups to Fortune 100 firms. He serves SOCAL Approach as a Senior Consultant.

A veteran of J.D. Power, TrueCar, Saatchi & Saatchi and other top organizations, Mike has led marketing and communication teams ranging from taking startups through the IPO process to growing established brands through techniques ranging from local search and events to Super Bowl advertising.

Mike holds an MBA from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and completed his undergraduate degree at California State University, Northridge. Mike also serves as an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University in the School of Management where he teaches courses in strategic management, international business, and marketing communications.

When he’s not working, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters attempting to perfect his proprietary BBQ sauce recipe and his smoked brisket.

Jose Lopez

Senior Consultant

Jose is an innovative Information Technology Professional who brings his industry-leading expertise to SOCAL Approach.  Over the last 14 years, he as delivered creative tech and business solutions honed running his own consultancy, TechGrunt.

Jose now brings to SOCAL and its clients his expertise in productivity and technology solutions, information systems and data management and security to our clients, while adhering to the latest industry data security protocols, standards and regulations.

Jose is a graduate of the University of Southern California and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Dr. Ronald Conlin, Ph.D.

Senior Executive Advisor

Dr. Ron Conlin, Ph.D. serves as Senior Executive Advisor and Chief Methodological Coach with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group helping to ensure all of our engagements meet the highest standards of methodological rigor.

Dr. Conlin has a distinguished history in Market Research and Statistical Sciences having served as Head of Research at Goodyear, Chief Research Officer at J.D. Power and Associates, and as President of his own consultancy.

Dr. Conlin is also available periodically for select projects as an executive consultant.

Dr. Conlin currently serves as Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Business Administration Division of Seaver College at Pepperdine University where he teaches courses in Marketing, Market Research, Sports Marketing and others.

Dr. Conlin is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he received his BA, MA and MBA degrees and received his doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University.

Angela Rogers

Associate Consultant

Angie is an Associate Consultant with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group. Angie brings a wealth of knowledge to her clients and has extensive experience in a variety of service and manufacturing industries having worked with some of the world’s best-known brands. With keen knowledge of the intricacies of Customer Satisfaction, Loyalty and Engagement, Angie provides her clients with the tools necessary to take their business to the next level. Angie has a specific interest and expertise in Communications, Management, Marketing (including Digital) and Customer Satisfaction programs and brings her passion for service excellence to all of her projects.

Previously, Angie was with J.D. Power and Associates where she worked on a variety of syndicated and proprietary projects and with assisting companies to better understand their online interactions, the effectiveness of their product offerings, web site experience, marketing, and work related to quality and dependability.

Angie is a proud graduate of California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo where she majored in Agribusiness with a concentration in Marketing.

Kirstyn Hughes

Associate Consultant

Kirstyn is an Associate Consultant with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group. Kirstyn has unique professional experience ranging from field marketing to customer satisfaction and engagement to social media management. From these experiences, Kirstyn gained knowledge for how to help companies enhance the customer experience to increase brand loyalty. She is passionate about growing audience engagement and brand recognition by utilizing customer behaviors and KPIs.

Prior to joining SOCAL, Kirstyn was successful in tripling the social media audience for the market leader in electric smokers and cooking equipment. Earlier in her career, Kirstyn followed in her father and grandfather’s footsteps to work with North America’s leading funeral home and cemetery provider. There, she used customer satisfaction analytics to help associates enhance the care their customers deserved.

Kirstyn is an alumna of the College of Media and Communication at Texas Tech University where she majored in Visual Communications.

Malia Rorabaugh

Associate Consultant

Malia is an Associate Consultant with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group. With experience in digital marketing and social media management, Malia provides advanced strategies proven to increase community engagement and brand awareness for her clients. She is passionate about helping companies implement market research and current trends to succeed.  Malia is a graduate of California Lutheran University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications with a minor in Psychology.

Ashley Gomez


Ashley is an Intern with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group.  Ashley attends California Lutheran University where she is pursuing her undergraduate degree in Marketing Communications with a minor in Business Administration, looking to pursue her MBA in the future.

Allison Pine


Allison is an Intern with SOCAL Approach Marketing and Consulting Group and attends California Lutheran University where she is pursuing her undergraduate degree in Business Administration.  During her internship, Allison is excited to learn more about the areas of Marketing and to gain experience working directly with SOCAL clients.  Allison has work experience in digital marketing, having served as an intern with a music label.

A gifted musician in her own right, she also enjoys dedicating time to community service.
